Job Description / Duties

0.4 FTE - Wednesday, Thursday.
Summary:
The Chiropodist will be encouraged to operate within their full scope of practice. The individual must be able to collaborate with all members of the health care team in the promotion of patient health and prevention of disease.
Accountability:
The Chiropodist reports to, and is responsible to, the Executive Director. All clinical decision making outside the scope of the Chiropodist must be done in consultation of the NPFHT Lead Physician and/or physicians of NPFHT and/or medical directives.
Authority:
Does not direct the activities of staff or a function without direction of FHT decision makers. The Chiropodist must comply with the practice standards used by the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Core components/responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:
In collaboration with the team members, develop and implement a foot care program specific to the needs of the FHT
Understand and collaborate with the individual clinical programs/services and other allied health practitioners provide foot care services and education as required
Assess and treat foot conditions and disorders in a timely manner
Differentiate between disorders of the foot arising from systemic or general disease and those arising from local, structural and/or functional disorders
Act as a resource to other FHT program and team members and assist with the coordination of services as required
Recognize patients having conditions beyond their scope of practice and referring to other appropriate health care professionals
Design and implement foot care plans based on presenting conditions and the patient’s individual needs, reinforcing and encouraging patient responsibility and participation in the care plan
Provide foot care education
Communicate and present foot health education in a variety of settings to patients, allied health practitioners or other individuals as needed
Ensure appropriate antiseptic techniques, safe procedures and isolation practices are maintained in the clinical setting
Maintain and upgrade knowledge and skills regarding new procedures, methods and equipment
Interprofessional Collaboration:
Develop and hone collaborative community relationships to facilitate patient access to services upon physician/health care team request;
Communicate ideas or concerns to the health care team. Participate in problem solving to enhance patient care
Assist in the training and development of new staff.
Practice Environment:
Use of personal protective equipment with all patients;
Maintain clean, orderly and well‐stocked inventory of medical supplies
Assist with other related duties as required.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Education/Experience:
License/registration in good standing with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario
Post secondary education in Chiropody
Preferred completion of Bachelor of Science and Graduate Advanced Diploma of Health Sciences (Chiropody)
With three (3) years of clinical experience, preferably within primary care
Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with physicians, allied health practitioners and other community partners
A strong understanding of current chiropody/podiatry best practices and guidelines
Experience with an electronic medical record (EMR)
Excellent communication skills in English (spoken, written, reading and comprehension)
Strong technical skills using the Microsoft Office Suite
